United Nations Development Program (UNDP) is the global development network of UN, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. We are on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. UNDP assists in designing and implementing national development strategies, promoting democratic and economic reforms, strengthening institutional and human capacities. In doing so, we cooperate with governments, civil society, researchers and other donor organizations. Following the United Nations Millennium Summit in September 2000, world leaders from 192 countries signed the Millennium Declaration pledging to cut extreme poverty in half by 2015. UNDP is charged with helping to make this a reality and has become the leading Agency in coordinating national and global efforts to reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). UNDP plays a central role in coordinating development efforts of all UN Agencies operating in the country through the Resident Coordinator System. We do this fully and constructively in the spirit of partnership, which enhances the impact of the UN system in the country as well as moves forward major UN and global initiatives.
