SUMMARY OF DUTIES

The Embassy of Canada is seeking to fill a Maintenance Technician position for the common services program as well as various technical specialist positions that may arise following this selection process. The Maintenance Technician performs repairs and maintenance of assets and equipment including minor electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing and refrigeration repairs and perform other duties as required in the Chancery and Staff Quarters. The incumbent will supervise a a team of maintenance technicians and/or supervise and inspect the work performed by contractors to ensure compliance with manufacturer's specifications when required.

Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Providing general maintenance services
• Assisting with repairs on crown owned or leased assets and equipment in one or more of the following areas: carpentry, masonry, painting, audio-visual, and various systems (including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical.). This includes preparing preventive maintenance schedules and assisting other maintenance team members on various projects, as required.

AREA OF SELECTION

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education

This position requires:

• A Bachelor's degree from a legally recognized University.

Language

The Following languages and proficiency levels are required for this job. Candidates will be formally assessed or requested to provide proof of certification on these levels.

• A basic proficiency level (reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking) in English.

Experience

In order to perform the duties relevant to this job, the following experience is required.

• A minimum of five (5) years cumulative and recent* experience as a maintenance technician such as working in general maintenance, with troubleshooting office maintenance issues, A/C repair, plumbing and electrical repairs.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

• Advanced level in spoken English.
• A basic proficiency level in spoken Russian.
• A basic proficiency level in spoken Kazak.
• Official Kazak or International Certification in repairs or maintenance of assets and equipment including electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing and refrigeration.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Operational requirements will be assessed on a ``meet/does not meet`` basis and can be used to determine right fit of a candidate for the position.

• Hours of Work: Normal hours of work of work for this position are in accordance with Locally-Engaged Staff regulations of 40 hours per week.
• Overtime: Willingness to work overtime on short notice.
• Ability to lift heavy objects.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position. They are to be maintained throughout the employment period.

• Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.
• Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada.
• A valid Driver’s license.
