JOB PURPOSE:
To operate, monitor, and maintain sludge handling systems, including dewatering, thickening, and disposal processes, ensuring efficient sludge treatment and compliance with ACWA NOMAC’s operational policies, quality standards, and HSE procedures.
Description
Sludge Handling & Operations
- Receive and monitor sludge streams from plant processes to ensure proper treatment and disposal.
- Operate sludge thickening, dewatering, and drying equipment according to plant procedures.
- Record operational data and prepare reports on sludge treatment efficiency and disposal in line with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure sludge disposal complies with local environmental and waste management regulations.
Plant Operations Support
- Monitor sludge quality parameters and adjust operational settings to optimize treatment efficiency.
- Provide assistance to the Operations team in managing sludge-related issues affecting plant performance.
- Support internal/external Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental audits, implementing corrective actions as required.
- Ensure chemical dosing for sludge treatment is aligned with plant requirements.
Equipment & Maintenance
- Confirm periodic calibration and maintenance of sludge handling equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Report operational problems and recommend corrective measures to the Chief Operator.
- Maintain adequate stock of consumables (chemicals, spare parts, PPE, etc.) for sludge treatment operations.
- Assist in training new sludge operators and supervisors.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to improvement initiatives in sludge handling processes to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

- Adhere to all organizational and departmental policies, SOPs, and instructions to ensure consistent and safe operations.
- Maintain awareness of local environmental and waste management procedures.
- Work in shifts as per plant operational regime.
Health, Safety, Security & Environment
- Follow all HSE procedures to ensure employee safety and environmental compliance.
Related Assignments
Perform any other duties assigned by the line manager.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field.
Minimum Experience:
- 3–5 years’ experience in sludge handling or wastewater treatment operations, preferably in power or desalination plants.
